Each trip we host funds one year of housing & education support for a girl from the Atlas mountains.

Our commitment is that for every trip we organise, we will sponsor one girl for one year through the EFA boarding houses, which provide a safe space (food and board) close to schools and tutor support so that girls from rural families can continue their education.

We always knew we wanted Sunny Side Up to stand for something, and we knew we wanted it to be local, measurable, and have a human-scale impact. Morocco has one of the lowest literacy rates in the world, with females disproportionately affected. Very few girls from rural communities in Morocco get the opportunity of continuing their education after primary school. When we came across EFA (Education for All) and the heroic work they were doing, it was only a matter of time before we began working together.

Very few girls from the rural communities of the High Atlas Mountains get the opportunity of continuing their education beyond primary school.

Secondary schools, mostly several kilometres away in larger towns, are not accessible to them because:

  1. Their parents cannot afford to pay for lodgings or transport near secondary schools

  2. Their parents do not have the confidence in existing facilities to entrust their daughters to be away from home.

Education For All (EFA)  build and run high-quality boarding houses for girls from 12–18. Everything is provided for free. They offer 3 nutritious meals a day, hot showers, cosy beds, access to computers, study support via an international volunteer programme and dedicated, local housemothers. The overall environment makes it easy for the girls to settle in and thrive in their studies.

They see an average of 90% pass rate across all years and now have 50 EFA girls enrolled at university!
